Emmanuel Pinto was Grand Master of the Order of St. John for 33 years during which time Malta witnessed a lot of turmoil as well as huge developments. There was a great number of events as well as conspiracies and intrigues. In this book we come across two principal and unusual incidents when Maltese slaves rebelled against the owners of Turkish galleys and managed to bring the vessels to Malta. The consequences were great but could have been more serious and dangerous, even leading to the murder of the Grand Master and for Malta to fall in the hands of the Muslims. Besides these exciting and mysterious events the author gives some very interesting details, including the history of the Order of St. John, the Great Siege, the building of Valletta and the state of slavery.
