I’m watching Quantum of Solace at the moment which is a bit of a travesty. Not that movie, it’s not that bad, but the fact that the movie came out in 2008 and it’s taken me 2 years to get round to watching it. We used to go to the cinema quite often, but since babies and other commitments came along it’s now a special occasion if we get to go out.

Well, who knows, some time in the future we will have a bit more time to ourselves and I’ll splash out on a nice rig. You know, Blu Ray, a nice Samsung HDTV maybe, surround sound, state of the art Hifi. In the meantime we get our entertainment from playing with babies, then fall asleep in front of TV before crawling to bed …

Nite nite all

You know, one of the shows I love on TV is Family Guy. I’m watching a couple of episodes as I write this post, and it’s the sort of show that can really get you giggling. And you know how laughing can sometimes be more contagious than herpes simplex. Well, at the moment, the toss for favourite show is somewhere between Family Guy and American Dad. It’s just that that’s the sort of humour I’m digging at the moment.

Funny though, how some of the best comedies are animations. it started with The Simpsons, continued with Futurama, and now it’s Family Guy and American Dad. Who know what will be next …

I don’t know many people who still have one of these, but we have a great bit CRT TV in our living room. It’s not because I would like a sexy new LCD TV, but it’ not really that compelling. The TV I have does everything I would like it to do and there’s one big benefit: it’s nice and solid. That way, if one of the kids decides to come and thump it, well, it just stays where it is. An LCD TV would be nice, but I think I’ll wait till the kids are a bit older. Then I’ll splash out on something nice.

Watching an interesting film at the moment called “500 Days of Summer“. The bit I’m really enjoying about it is the instrument that’s being used to tell the story. The narrative jumps backwards and forward in time showing snippets from the story, but letting the viewer piece it all together. I quite like this style of movie. Another movie like this I watch some time ago was a bit more blatant with the technique. It was afilm called Memento that actually used the mechanism as part of the story line, featuring a character that couldn’t form any new memories and had to tattoo things to his body to follow the story of his life. Good thing he didn’t use barcodes, otherwise he would need to stock up on barcode scanners. Anyway, back to the movie …

I’m enjoying the movie, but the first few scenes make you wonder why some companies don’t have better employee screening. Ah well, it is a romcom after all.

We’re watching Doc Martin at the moment, series 1 all the way through to 3. We’ve watched the occasional episodes, but never quite in a sequence; so it’s quite refreshing to watch them all in the proper order. I quite enjoy the series to tell you the truth; it’s the sort of humour that I find refreshing, and the characters in the show are rich are full of life. We’ve been going through these phases of catching up on series by watching them all from start to end.

We quite like watching TV together every now and again. Not that we’re going to put a TV wall mount and flat screen TV into the bedroom any time soon, but we quite like watching TV in the evening before retiring. Obviously, there are other things we do too, like reading, or in my case coding, or just surfing the Web. I’d love to be able to go out for a walk sometimes in the evening too, but with Arthur fast asleep, we’re not going to just leave him on his own. Still, it’s great that there are just so many choices of what we can do!

Do you have an LCD TV or one of the old-style CRT sets? Even though I’m well into my gadgets I must admit that we have a CRT TV. I’ve never really felt the move to switch to a thinner model because the TV we have does all we need. Also, when Arthur was younger I was less apprehensive about his pointing and whacking at the set, because I knew there was no way he could move it. The thin screens I’ve seen would have wobbled on their tv stand if subjected to the same treatment.

LCD TVs are nice, especially with all the new features new set have built into them. I particularly like the ones that have FreeView, DVD and SD reading capabilities, but for now I’m probably sticking with that I have. Maybe someday .. maybe someday soon …but until this one breaks, I’m not really in a hurry to upgrade.

I’ve got a really soft spot for Family Guy, which happens to be on TV just as I decide to go to bed .. which means I end up spending an extra hour up watching 2 episodes of Family Guy. I just love the humour and the whole thing just sends me in hysterics. Seth Macfarlane is a genius!

One day, I may get myself a yatch and sail off into the sunset, but before that I’ll make sure I get myself satellite internet services so that I can download episodes of Family Guy and get my daily fix.

The film begins immediately following the events of Alien vs. Predator, onboard the Predator spaceship leaving Earth which is carrying dead Aliens, living facehuggers, and the body of the dead Predator who had defeated the Alien queen. A chestburster erupts from the dead Predator’s body; it is a new creature which is a hybrid of Alien and Predator characteristics…
