You might have spotted the blog post I made on my other blog when I gave Dragon NaturallySpeaking a whirl. I was pretty impressed by the speech recognition capabilities, and I wasn’t the only one. Brett, the person who introduced me to the product had a write-up where he talks about the package and how it worked for him and for our mutual friend Drew.

Hello my name is Brett Bumeter and I write about Dragon Naturally Speaking at Softduit.com (Tip if you are looking for the details on the coupon codes scroll to the bottom of this article). I wanted to share this video with you showing a fellow blogger named Drew who is using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 for the first time. There are some interesting things that you will see in this video that I wanted to point out to help you get a sense of how Dragon NaturallySpeaking works and how it could potentially work for you.

I think it’s important to see Dragon NaturallySpeaking, when people are using it and videos definitely help show you how well the software works these days. It’s extremely fast and can help you to type at 150 words per minute. You can see this in the demonstration that Drew has created as he is basically talking at a relatively normal speed. You will notice that he tends to look with his eyes to the right and up just a little bit.

I mention this not because Drew is looking in some strange direction, but instead because Dragon NaturallySpeaking does use your brain in a slightly different way than what you may be used to. You have to think of the words you will say in your head and then speak it out loud. That’s a little different than when you think of a composition and type it out with your fingers or even more different than when you attempt to write with your hands using a pen and paper. All three activities use different sections of our brains.

There used to be a time a decade ago when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking was more difficult because it would take a significant amounts of time to train the software. These days, the software can be trained in as little as seven minutes. The out-of- the-box experience with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 is flat-out amazing. That said, it will take you a little bit of time to train your brain or compose messages or articles or e-mails by speaking them out loud.

You can type 150 words a minute using Dragon NaturallySpeaking and that’s typically 2 to 3 times faster than your average person can type. 2 to 3 times faster can save you a great deal of time and a great deal of money. This can enable you to spend more time with your family or be more productive at work and get more done and possibly a promotion or raise. Possibly the biggest benefit that you can experience is just staying on top of your workload with less effort.

If you consider also that Drew is looking off to the right a little bit as he’s composing, I will share with you a hidden benefit of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. When you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you are not locked into a position physically, where you have to stare at your computer monitor all of the time. When you don’t have the light on your computer screen glaring in your face all the time, you experience a great deal less eye strain. The muscles in your eyes can relax more, as you look around the room and change your focal point. You would be amazed at how much extra energy this will give you as your eyes, and the muscles in your eyes don’t get worn out as fast as they would if you sit at a computer and type all day long.

We often associate sore hands and fingers and wrists with typing, but typing also creates very sore eyes and can even lead to migraine headaches. Plus, it basically just makes you tired sitting in front of your computer. Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you can save a great deal of time and effort and keep your energy level high, because you’re not wearing out your eyes. With a wireless microphone headset like the one I’m using, you can even pace around your desk or exercise on a treadmill or bike machine while you write your emails!

Best regards,
Brett Bumeter

PS I wrote this article with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 preferred. It took me about five minutes to write the words above, which are proximally 670 in length. That’s about 130 words per minute typing, and it only took me another minute or two to edit, which is still approximately 95 words per minute with editing included!

I’ve been playing with Dragon NaturallySpeaking for a couple of days now and came across a post by SuperZ a fellow blogger who actually had to teach Dragon to spell his name. Here’s his experience:

I couldn’t write that name before using Dragon NaturallySpeaking until I trained Dragon NaturallySpeaking to recognize the name SuperZ. I mention that because I’m using Dragon NaturallySpeaking right now to write this article (notice Dragon new when I said the words right now that I meant the word right and not the word to write).

I’ve been writing articles and reviews about Dragon NaturallySpeaking for close to two years. I’ve had a lot of experience with the software, and I wanted to reach out to other bloggers and see what they thought of the software.

SuperZ tried out the software and as you can see from his own video, the results that he’s getting after having used the software for just a week are pretty amazing. His computer is keeping up with just about every word that he says, and typing those words out for him in text.

Well frankly that’s exactly what Dragon NaturallySpeaking is supposed to do these days and it lives up to its claim of achieving 99% accuracy and I’ve clocked it typing faster than its claims of 150 words per minute.

That’s right you can type 150 words a minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. You do have to spend a little time editing from time to time, but you type so fast that editing doesn’t take that long. You get the typing done faster and the editing is a breeze because you only have to look at the way that you phrased words. Dragon NaturallySpeaking almost never makes a spelling mistake. It types out the entire word based on the vocabulary that has stored in the machine. So it really can’t misspell a word it’s pulling the word straight out of a dictionary.

The only exception might be the case when you run into a name like SuperZ, which is not in your dictionary yet. When you run across a name like that, all you have to do is add it into your dictionary and train the software to recognize that new word or name. It just takes a second and after that you’ll be able to say SuperZ all you like and Dragon NaturallySpeaking will know exactly what you are talking about.

It’s pretty interesting to see the successes and problems other people have had with software I’m using too. Personally I found it easy to train BUT you need to have a decent microphone. Mine is a headset I bought for £3 at Tesco, and while it works perfectly in a silent room, it wasn’t up to scratch to use in an office environment.

Remember you can type 150 Words per minute for $99!. Wow!

Every once in a while some new product comes along which changes the way that things are done. This time it’s eBay’s dominance in the online auctions market that is about to be shaken! Everyone can now auction off their products, stuff in their garage and run an auction blog FEE FREE thanks to WP Auctions.

Making money online, and getting traffic to sell it too, is going to get easier and more profitable with the advent of the WP Auctions Plugin.

What is WP Auctions?

WP Auctions is a free standalone plugin that enables anyone with the WordPress installed blogging platform to set up auctions on their own blog.

The basic plugin is free for download

There are no fees to list your auctions, re-list them and re-list them again and again… Ever.

You host your own auctions. You can end them, delete them, edit them whenever you like. All from your own admin panel.

Mange bids on auctions in your admin panel.

Visitors can subscribe to your auctions by RSS. {this is really awesome!}

Choose between four currencies USD, Euro, Yen & GBP to run your auctions in.

Fee Free Auctions On Your Blog

You can auction virtually anything – from a red paper clip to a house from the comfort of your own blog, or WordPress enabled website, without paying anybody any fees whatsoever at all.

If you don’t have anything physical to auction, you can auction off advertising space, paid reviews or auction off something for a charitable purpose – hey, it doesn’t hurt to do something good once in a while!

More Money, More Traffic

The secret of WP Auctions lies not in the simplicity of letting a blog owner make more money, but also in the ingenious way that it provides them traffic to sell to. It doesn’t matter if your blog does not get hundreds or thousands of visitors a day – WP Auctions will help you get traffic from people who will be interested in what you are putting up for auction.

Details to come about that in the near future…

The Idea: WP Auctions is a Weborithm production. Weborithm is owned by Hyder who has over 6 years of web experience in various fields like design, freelance writing, making money online, blogging, dreaming up new products and transitioning over to becoming a web entrepreneur.

The Developer: The WP Auctions plugin has been developed by Owen (that’s moi). The plugin is a culmination of all the PHP/MySQL/WordPress experience I’ve amassed in the last few years. It’s also let me experiment with some AJAX techniques and has been a great vehicle towards learning some amazing skills.
Can you believe it we have not even spoken once! This plugin was developed solely via chats on MSN Messenger and a digitally signed Word document. Big thanks to WordPress, you rock!

Here’s a screenshot of things to come. Don’t forget to sign up to receive the beta download instructions on Friday, only <strike>46</strike> 44 remaining at time of writing…

It’s just proved useful for me, not because I’ve had a catastrophic failure and needed everything back, but because I accidentally saved one document over another and needed to get the original back. I started playing with iBackup some time back and had taken an archive of my My Documents folder and that’s what saved me! I don’t tend to use online storage much, usually prefering to back things up to USB disk, but iBackup has an easy drag-n-drop interface that is really easy to use. And as long as you have an Internet connection, you can always get to your files.

How do you backup you files ?

I’m sitting in Gatwick at the moment without an Internet connection, but I’m writing posts for my blogs thanks to Windows Live Writer. I’ve blogged about this in the past, but it’s the first time I’ve used it in an offline mode, saving my posts as Draft so that they can be published to my blog when the time comes.

It’s great to be able to mess around with your laptop when you have a delay on your flight and I was lucky enough to find a power outlet. I’ve been rummaging through my laptop bag looking for things to do and have made a mental note to start creating CD labels when I burn a new CD. I have a whole bunch of them which could be anything really. I’ll just go through them one by one to see what they are and see if there’s anything I can play with.

Spam has become a certainty today, just like death and taxes. I start my day usually by deleting a couple hundred spam emails and delete more and more through the day. It’s not too bad, but when I go on holiday (like I did last week), I come back to literally thousands of spam emails. I get email about increasing the size of parts of my body, investing in Arizona living trusts and of course the fact that have won millions of dollars in a lottery I knew nothing about but luckily someone had bought me a ticket for.

I’m experimenting with a couple of add-ons for Firefox which should have alleviate the problem, but the problem with spam prevention is that there’s always a chance that a legitimate email is flagged as spam. But we’ll see how we get on. What do YOU use to prevent spam?

It gives me great pleasure to let everyone know that I’ve managed to get my latest WordPress plugin out of the door. It’s a sidebar widget I’ve called GeoWidget that lets you add a map to your website. You an use the map for anything you like. You can show where you live, where your idol lives, or where you work. Here’s a look at what the administration console looks like:

Neat huh? The map display is interactive and supplied by Microsoft Live Earth. It’s the first time I’ve played around with mashups and I’m impressed at how easy it was to get great looking results. Anyway, if you have a WordPress blog download GeoWidget and let me know what you think.

I was chatting with Camille yesterday about her photography and realised just how passionate she has become about it. She’s currently doing a City and Guilds course, but she might want to take it even further. I did notice that you can even do a Masters in Photography at the Brooks Photography School, so I’m sure that if she wanted should could take it even further. I wonder if you can get a docorate in photography!

The only pain is taking care of the photos. She has 2 1Gb cards at the moment, and perfectly capable of filling them up in 30 minutes. The EOS 400D I bought her for Xmas has a 10 megapixel CCD, so each photo takes a couple of megabytes. I’m currently storing them on the home machine hard disk then using FolderShare to replicate them over to my PC. But it’s only a matter of time before I run out of space.

What about you. How do you store your photos?
