There are loads of gadgets that have come out this year, Kindles, iPads, digital cameras and all sorts of phones. But I must say that I’m loving my gadget purchase of the year; which was my Nexus 1.

It’s been great watching Android really start to grow in the marketplace and I’m really happy with my choice. It’s also nice running the same operating system as my wife’s phone. We can share apps, send stuff to each other and I can fix stuff that breaks on her phone. Did someone say brownie points?

The great thing is that he has a DS, which will talk to the Wii, seeing they are both Nintendo devices. I have a friend who has both and he’s always talking about how he was playing Super Mario Kart with his kid, one on the DS and one on the Wii. Anyway, it’s all new stuff to me, so I have loads to learn. Good thing you can find all this online!

I was a bit sceptical before I tried it. Usually these things are never good as they’re advertise. But I was amazed by the amount of gunk that came out of the drain. It was mostly hair and yucky stuff, but the great thing is that my drain is flowing perfectly now. Problem solved.

It was a good opportunity to test my new Wifi setup which is supposed to cover the yard. It seemed to work fine, though it was a bit slower than I expected. I wonder if I should test out some other wireless devices, not that I have an ls4278 or anything like that; but it’s always fun to play with wireless devices and see what works and what doesn’t.

I’ve just received my new Dreambox DM800 back from China. I had to send mine back because the tuner started playing up, so DVBSeller shipped me a brand new one; which again, has me really impressed about their customer service. As you can imagine, I have my fair share of gadgets at home, but I don’t have them all. I don’t have a Slingbox or many other audio/visual gadgets, but my Dreambox does really make up for a lot of things as it an do pretty much anything you can imagine when it comes to video and being web connected.

The box I have is a DM800, which I’ve installed a 500Gb disk in. It’s a satellite receiver and I can watch all my Sky channels on it. It’s a PVR which means I can pause and record TV, but I can also stream video off the Internet, stream off my laptop or any other PC in the house. Great huh?

Just finished watching a show on TV called Britain’s Worst Home. The reason it stuck in my mind is that one guy had a house full of computers, computer bits and all sort of peripherals. I recognised a Spectrum, a VIC 20, an Amiga … then I stopped myself. If I recognised all those different bits of kit I was running a danger of ending up the same way. I have an assortment of laptops in various states of disrepair. Heck I even have an mmf drawer from when we used to run The Joke Shop.

Anyway, these programs are interesting, because they show you how bad things can get. I know it will never be that bad though

Anyway, my Dreambox isn’t here yet, but that’s going to be another fun-packed weekend too!

I also have an old machine that I’ll be building for a friend of ours. It’s no Sony Vaio, just an old Samsung X15 that’s seen better days; but we have a friend with a kid who hasn’t had an opportunity to mess around on a computer, so it’s perfect for her to bash around and get her hands dirty.

So, it’s going to be a busy evening. Can you imagine me surrounded by all those bits and pieces?
