It’s been a while since I picked up a work of fiction, and god knows I need to balance all the mundane stuff I read with something a bit more lively. So, what am I reading. It’s called The Golden Prince by Rebecca Dean. I don’t know what the story is like yet, but here’s what the blurb says about it:

Edward VIII became notorious for abandoning the throne for Mrs Simpson, but in the summer of 1911 he was a prince straight from the pages of a fairy-tale. Raised by the harsh disciplinarian King George V and his unfeeling Queen Mary, the prince longed for the warmth that had been deprived of him.

The high society Houghton girls’ lives however, were full of fun, both at their magnificent family seat Snowberry, and at the whirlwind of glamorous parties which punctuated their lives. When a moment of serendipity brings Edward and Lily Houghton together, the pressures of a stuffy court are replaced with the lightness that Edward has dreamt of.

But a future monarch could not choose his own Queen, and even an enduring love might falter under the furious gaze of a King. Could the devotion of Edward and Lily triumph against him and the impending doom of World War I? Or would they bow to the inevitable and set in train events that could bring down the Crown, and change the course of history forever?

I’ll post more after I read the book. In the meantime, if it sounds like your cup of tea, check it out!

So what are the boys and girls down at PayPerPost up to? Well, we’ve been told there there’s some big news coming our way, but no one wants to give us any clues as to what the news is going to be. Well, I put my thinking hat on, and tried to think of a few things they could have up their sleeve ..

They could be getting a new blog: Considering they are in the business of blogs and blogging, I don’t really like the PayPerPost blog. It’s built on Blogger and while it does the job doesn’t look very snazzy. And I hate the way it’s NOFOLLOW page too! I think they’ll be running a competition for Posties to build a new blog for them and the winner will be getting a free trip, all expenses paid, to PostieCon

They could be making a big hire: We already know that Scoble will be talking at the PostieCon they’re organising. I think they’ve managed to sign him up as the new VP of Sales. I know he’s not really a sales person, but he’s a driving force in the blogosphere and he could certainly make things more exciting

They could be buying another company: Since the acquisition of Performancing has fallen through, they have been looking for a new way to expand the company. I think they’ve probably made a bit to acquire a company like MyBlogLog or Multiply to help enhance their marketing estate.

There you go, my three predictions as to what the new “Big Thing” is going to be. What do you think?
