Giving away the beamer

2004-2006 Mazda MPV photographed in USA.

Well, with twins on the way, we’ve decided we need a new car. We currently have an old BMW and a Jaguar, but really need a 7-seater MPV now. Space for the 3 kids and their bicycles, or visiting relatives or anything else that may be needed. We like both cars, but really need the space, so have to start rationalising what we’re going to do.

Well, the BMW has been parked doing nothing for some time, it’s been insured so that my father-in-law can use it from time to time, but we might as well hand it over to him so he can make use of it when he pleases. At last I don’t have to get any auto insurance low cost though it may be, and I don’t need to worry about taxing it either. This way will be better for the car also. It’s not good for it to be sitting there doing nothing.

  1. SEVEN SEATS? Why not a Corsa with a bike rack? Fits two adults and 3 kids nicely. (They even come pre-fitted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA4HaKthwcs) And is better for the environment. Why is it that very small children require huge cars? I know they come with equipment but surely that can go in the boot when not in use?

That is all. One of my pet gripes, and about that 3rd runway …

So, when the in-laws come visiting .. am I supposed to stick them on the bike rack? .. Don’t think making 2 trips down to Ramsey instead of 1 with everything would be better for en environment; regardless on how economical the vehicle is.

  3. How often do the in-laws come? My mum had three kids and we had a diddy Maestro.

Hardly worth it for in-laws visiting. Rent a car when they come over, or even better, put them on the bus! (It’s the #3 service) ;)

More often than you would think. We’re in a big house just because of how often they visit.

Seriously, there’s no way you can get 3 child seats in the back of a normal car. When I was a kid, a 4 year old would just squish in between the 2 child seats, but nowadays you need a car seat for him too. From an ecological point of view, I’m sure a new people carrier will be more efficient than the 3.5 litre petrol engine my Jag has …

  5. Fair enough!

In that case, lose the Jag if it’s unsuitable for family use. You work in Douglas, so no need for a second car.

Sorry to lecture, but I have yet to understand why the island has over 3 cars per household on average. The amount of people I see driving to work who could easily walk/cycle is frustrating. Some guy even drives from Governers to Tromode.

At the end of it all, the Earth is screwed due to selfish behaviour of politicians and individuals. Maybe Nature needs to hurry up with one of her culls of humanity. An Ice Age should do it!

Yeah .. plan is to end up with one vehicle, the beamer’s actually in the UK not being used.

I personally don’t have a problem with households having 3 cars. They’re unlikely to be being used at the same time unless people are heading in different directions, in which case they’re needed.

Having 3 (or even more) cars parked outside the door isn’t damaging the environment.
