Wind-up gadgets

I bought Arthur a wind-up torch the other day. It only cost a couple of pounds and I’m sure we’ve saved the amount in batteries already. The problem with a 2-year old and torches is that it’s a bit difficult to enforce that the torch is switched off when he’s finished with it, especially if he’s playing with it in bed before going to sleep. The beauty of a wind-up torch is that it just goes off when the charge runs out. The first time we let him play with a torch we went to turn his night light out a few hours later, and there was his torch amongst his baby clothes, batteries spent. Now that he has a wind-up one, he can play with it anytime and doesn’t need batteries any more.

I never did get myself one of these wind up radios when they came out, but I am curious as to how long they last. Do you have to keep winding them up all the time, or will winding them in the morning keep them playing all day?
