Camille is spending some time at our house in Staines as we have some construction work going on at the moment. What we are doing at the moment is using the space in the garden (which was a pool till now), to actually convert in to some office/living space. It’s not quite an apartment, but provides a place to get away from it all as it’s a totally self contained unit.
We went down the route of reusing the shell that was around the pool, but another option would have been to knock it down and go for one of these prefabricated garden offices. There’s a company called The Garden Escape that produces, delivers and installs this sort of thing. They produce a whole range of different garden buildings all of which look fabulous. The buildings are laid on concrete “piles” so all it takes is some effort to provide a flat area and the company comes in and does all the rest. They can even hook it up to water supply, electricity and drainage facilities if needed. They do quote around £20,000 for a sample building which is less that what we are spending.
The route we went down however gives us complete control over what we do. For example, we are converting the pool into an underground storage area which wouldn’t have been an option with one of these. However, if you have a garden with lots of space and are looking at a way of creating some space to get away, as a home office, or even a gym (with sauna maybe), then this would be a great way to go. And the nice thing is that The Garden Escape can provide a turnkey installation, they come in, they deliver what you order and Bob’s your uncle!

Looks very peaceful/beautiful back there…now I think about it..it’s a great idea to have an office there; would feel very close to nature while you work. Think you gave me future inspiration for my future garden
*not a homeowner yet*
Yeah, it’s a lovely photo, pity that’s not our place. Will put up photos when it’s done though!
